Get Involved

Connecting with neighbors is fun!

There are lots of opportunities to get involved and connected with NOBL…

• Volunteer during neighborhood park cleanups.

• Work with our Beautification Committee to plant trees and flowers.

• Serve on our Community Development Committee and be the first to hear about proposed development projects in the neighborhood.

• Plan neighborhood events.

• Guide the vision of our work by serving on our board of directors.

• Rent a plot at our community garden.

• Support our feral cat population.

Utilize our neighborhood Tool Library.

Join a Committee

NOBL Committees are groups of neighbors who work together to support projects and initiatives in our neighborhood. Everyone is welcome to get involved.

Serve on the NOBL Board of Directors

Neighbors of Belknap Lookout (“NOBL”) is led by a 9-member volunteer Board of Directors.  Our board meets monthly every 2nd Monday, 6:30pm-8:00pm, at the NOBL Clubhouse (700 Clancy Ave NE). Board meetings are always open to the public and all are welcome.

If you are interested in serving as a board member, we encourage you to reach out to us and start attending our board meetings! Attending board meetings before you join the board will give you a better sense of the work we do and how you can help us fulfill our mission. Currently only 7 of 9 seats are filled.

Board elections take place each year at our Annual Meeting in November.

Lead a Neighborhood Project

Neighbors of Belknap Lookout empowers neighbors to bring ideas to life! We work with residents and businesses to support neighbor-led projects that promote safety, beautification, community, education, and more.

If you have an idea that will benefit the neighborhood, reach out and let us know what you have in mind. We will discuss feasibility of the project, potential funding opportunities, and resources available to help make your idea a reality.

Belknap Collaborative Garden

We operate a seasonal garden from March – October at 762 North Ave NE!

Each plot is individually rented and maintained by neighbors. Water and gardening tools are included!

We even host monthly garden work day parties to connect with each other and take care of shared garden spaces.

Support our Community Cats

We work with neighbors and feral cat organizations to manage the feral/community cat population in Belknap, support residents interested in this humane work, and educate the neighborhood about the importance of spaying and neutering animals.

We are able to equip neighbors with food and other resources for community cats. Please reach out to us if you want to get involved in this work or need support.

Belknap Native Plant Initiative

In 2024, with support from the Michigan Botanical Foundation and the City of Grand Rapids Neighborhood Match Fund, we facilitated a neighborhood wide native planting project to restore pollinator habitat in Belknap. We worked with 24 families to install native garden kits, grown by local conservation group Plaster Creek Stewards

In 2025 we will be leading a walking tour to view all of the gardens. Additional resources and information will be added here soon.
